About the PJMIL

The Philippine Journal of Media and Information Literacy is a peer-reviewed, annual research journal on media and information literacy published by the Philippine Association for Media and Information Literacy (PAMIL), Inc., the Philippine Chapter of UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Alliance.  This features research articles, academic essays, and book reviews related to media and information literacy practices, issues, and trends in the Philippines.

The Philippine Journal of Media and Information Literacy aims to:

  • Contribute to the development of knowledge and the growth of scholarship in media and information literacy (MIL)
  • Promote research as a way of life among MIL educators, librarians, archivists, media practitioners, and other advocates
  • Serve as a venue for the exchange of ideas and knowledge on basic and applied research areas on media and information literacy, digital literacy and citizenship, and media mindfulness.

Original and unpublished articles may be submitted in the following forms:

Research Articles.  These are highlights of relevant research projects written using the IMRAD format.  Manuscripts for research articles should not exceed 8,000 words inclusive of references using APA style.

Academic Essays.  These are expository works on current trends and developments that will contribute to theory-building in media and information literacy.  These may include literature reviews and meta-analyses, conceptual papers, and reflections on media and information issues.  Manuscripts for academic essays should not exceed 5,000 words inclusive of references using APA style.

The editorial team of the journal will base its decision on the results of the double-blind peer review.

Authors of articles that passed the double-blind review will be notified and their papers will undergo an originality check. Each article is required to pass at least a 15 percent similarity index to proceed with publication. If in case the article doesn’t meet the criteria on the similarity index, the article will be returned to the author for revision until it meets the required percentage.

After the revisions by the author were indicated, a galley proof of the layout of the journal will be forwarded to the author to ensure that there are no changes made from the original article after the layout. A confirmation from the author that the manuscript is ready for publication should be forwarded to the editorial team on a given deadline.

Reviewers and editors are responsible for providing a constructive and prompt evaluation of submitted research papers based on the significance of their contribution and the rigors of analysis and presentation.
